In honour of Earth Day we want to look into the use of mircobeads in personal and beauty products and how to find alternatives that support our Earth.
Microbeads are tiny bits of plastic that can be found in body washes, exfoliants and other cleansing products to enhance the scrubbing power. These beads range in size from 0.1-1 millimeter so they are only tiny but when you add them up it can be overwhelming, in fact the micro beads in one product can often be the equivalent of the plastic of the packaging
After you have washed your body or face the water washes away these tiny beads down the drain, our Wastewater Treatment Plants aren’t designed to filter out these tiny bits of plastic so they end up in oceans, lakes and rivers. The beads in the oceans are eaten by tiny organisms and are covering the ocean floors suffocating sea-bed life.
When microbeads were first invented, they were a cosmetic dream. The small, smooth beads were cheap to manufacture, and they offered the kind of soft exfoliation that’s hard to come by without spending a fortune. Since understanding the impact on our environment company’s have had to come up with alternatives, we at The Divine Company are very proud that we have never used mircobeads and instead use natures resources to produce exfoliating results like no other.
Our Exfoliating Body Scrub contains pumice and walnut granules to exfoliate and moisturise the skin, these alternatives are environmentally friendly and produce amazing results on the skin as they are not uniform in size or shape. Our Daily Radiance Exfoliating Cream contains rice and bamboo particles, these have been formed to be dual size so you get the benefits of mini and micro-mini beads.
Fantastic! A brand that cares for our beloved planet! Thank you for an interesting read as well!
Thanks Christine, we love our plant and everything in it!
